For context I am a veterinary student currently coming up to exams including parasites. I also have been getting a lot of insect bites recently. In my dream I started out alone and to my surprise I found a tick on my skin. I have arachnophobia and this caused me to panic and pull it out of my arm. within 10 seconds I was finding more and more ticks all over my body and some of them were massive. I felt ashamed and disgusted at this. At some point my mum came into the dream and was checking over my body for more ticks that I hadnt managed to remove. She looked at my back and said "oh my god theres at least 50 here". I started to panic and try to rip them out. At this point I "woke up" and checked my body for ticks and they were still there. I saw a red splotchy rash all over my arm and asked my mum if it was scarlet fever and she said no that is babesiosis and youre probably going to die of anaemia (I actually have recently been diagnosed with anaemia). I then dreamt I told my friend about this dream while still in a dream. I then woke up feeling scared and realised that I hadnt actually woke up before and hadnt told my friend about the dream.
Your dream vividly reflects the intersection of your current life circumstances, deep-seated fears, and anxieties related to your personal and academic life. Let's delve into the components of your dream and what they might symbolize:
Tick on Your Skin: Ticks are parasitic in nature, which could symbolize feelings of invasion, being consumed, or having your energy sapped away. Considering your studies involving parasites and your real-life encounters with insect bites, this imagery could be a manifestation of your subconscious processing these events.
Arachnophobia and Panic: Your reaction to the tick is compounded by your fear of arachnids, highlighting an anxiety response when facing what you consider fearful or out of control. The panic and the struggle to remove the ticks suggest a sense of urgency or desperation to rid yourself of these fears or burdens.
Increasing Number and Size of Ticks: As the ticks multiply and grow, it may symbolize escalating worries or stressors in your life. This could directly relate to exam pressures, health concerns, or general anxiety about your current life situations. The feeling of shame and disgust suggests a struggle with personal boundaries and your body's ability to repel or manage these stressors.
Your Mother's Presence: Your mother assisting you by checking your body for more ticks suggests a desire for support, reassurance, and emotional comfort. Her reaction points to her being shocked at the extent of your burdens and might indicate you're feeling overwhelmed, possibly without a clear path to relief.
The Rash and Fear of Illness: Finding a rash and the mention of scarlet fever or babesiosis can be tied to health anxieties, especially given your recent anemia diagnosis. Your mind could be interpreting these diseases as potential threats, fueling your fears of illness or deterioration.
False Awakening: The dream where you thought you woke up only to find it’s part of your dream reflects confusion or uncertainty in distinguishing between reality and fears. This is often symbolic of unresolved issues or fears that continue to linger beneath the surface of conscious understanding.
Conversation with Your Friend: Sharing the dream with a friend, while still dreaming, could suggest a desire to communicate your struggles or fears to someone you trust to gain insight or comfort. It points to a need for social support and external validation of your internal landscape.
In summary, your dream seems to encapsulate your current concerns and stressors about illness, exams, and your overwhelming fear, perceived helplessness, and need for support. It might be beneficial to discuss these feelings with those close to you or seek professional advice on managing anxiety, health concerns, or overwhelming situations. Engaging in stress-relieving activities or exercises could also provide an outlet for these subconscious concerns.
